St. Monica Academy was established in the year 2001, by then known as St. John Junior Academy with a population of 90 pupils from nursery to class one. The school started operating as a full primary school in 2005 under now the current name “ST Monica Academy” with about 200 pupils. It was officially registered as a private primary school under the Ministry of Education in 2008 with a population of 250 pupils.
As at January 2018 population of the school was; 558 pupils, 21 teachers, 3 administrative staff and 11 support staff. The foundation of the school is based on the doctrines of the Catholic Church and it operates under the Education structure of Ngong Diocese Education Board.
We aim to provide a happy school firmly rooted in the example and teachings of Jesus Christ in which we, the children, parents, staff and board of management seek to encourage each other to develop our abilities to the full, for the service of all and the growth of our caring parish community.
The deliberate intention of St. Monica Academy is to cater for the individual needs of the children and equip them with a better understanding of the world in which they live.
Sociology of education is a foundation subject in teacher education. It defines the concept of sociology and its application to education. The course seeks to equip the learner with knowledge and attitudes that will enable them to appreciate the role of Sociology in education. The unit exposes the learners to study individuals' experiences and situations that influence education. This course also examines, social institutions and their influence on educational attainment and achievement.
This is an online course and all resources will be made available to you through our college Learning Management System which you shall be inducted into on its use. Exams will be done face to face in college on the date that you will be communicated to. You need a laptop or a smartphone for this class. You will be evaluated through individual CATS, group work, and end-of-term exams.
This unit specifies the competencies required by the trainer to facilitate the training of applying social skills in Education, Gender and inclusivity. It involves exploring family functions in education, illustrating effective socialization, analyzing social stratification, applying inclusivity and diversity, in TVET Training. It involves Applying gender responsive and inclusive strategies in curriculum and delivery. Enhancing effective interaction, analyzing social economic and emerging Social Issues.
